Having pringled my good front wheel a few weeks back I was wondering whether to give this a go. My 456 feels a bit nervy rigid and 26er and a bit overforked at 140mm for a lot of my riding.
I wondered if a 29er front wheel in the steel on-one 26er fork (currently sat in the garage) might give the right kind of compromise or whether this idea is pure poop/ it wont work.

I've done essentially exactly that - 26" 853 inbred with 440 rigid fork and 29er wheel.
it was fine but not different enough to normal for me to stick with it.
