Looking to get a basic padded top to go under my jersey for uplift days and this looks like an option. Anyone out there using one? Thoughts?

I have the short sleeve one. Decent bit of kit. Gets pretty hot in summer, but it is cooler than traditional body armour. I got it as both my shoulders are knackered.

It is a bugger to get off after a days sweaty riding!

It is compression type material, so is somewhat cooling - which is a consideration for winter.

I unstitch the sternum pads out as that is what makes it most sweaty.

Got two in a sale but the medium was ridiculously tight even for a compression top and the large I could just about get in - but had arms long enough for Mr Tickle.

If it's for uplift days I'd really recommend getting some proper body armour instead anyway. Much more useful if you do have an unplanned interface with a rock.

I tried one on and ended up not getting it, I'd have been tempted if there was a little more padding than there was (but still less than full on armour).

Went on an uplift holliday with some very quick DHers, none of who'm (independantly, they didn't know each other beforehand to come up with this idea but I guess it may be a general consensus amongst DHers) wore armour. Their logic was not only is it hot sweaty and uncomfortable, but it encourages mistakes by lowering the consequences, right up untill you have a bone breaking crash which they don't do anything to prevent. I was the only one wearing armour and I was the only one to break a bone, not a logicaly infalible argument, but I'm pretty sure I'd not have done something that silly without a FF and enough armour to impersonate a stormtrooper.

Bet they wore armour when they weren't super-quick DHers though.

Nothing to do with it being uncool of course.

I have it, it's good in that the compression material keeps the pads on your elbows ad in place - until they get a bit older and stretch a bit.

It's more a convenient way of combining base layer and light elbow/shoulder padding for trail riding than a proper DH armour piece.

I've used a full pressure suit before and it was very good but just felt it was too much (I don't go full DH speed) so just want something to give some protection without the bulk.
CRC have them at a good price and I've a voucher too so brings the price down even more.

Unless you have proper skills and are under 25, if its for uplifts only then get proper armour. A few over the bars landing on shoulder / back on rocks will soon show you how good decent armour is. Getting a bit hot doesnt matter.

Were they wearing wife beaters and neck braces by chance?

I wear mine (short sleaved)pretty much all the time out of habit, very handy even for singletrack when trying to take that just too tighter line around a tree for protecting shoulders. The chest bit has only come in handy once when I had a half over the bars which resulted in a chest plant to stem - would've hurt much more without it.

Like mine. Its very tight in the body and crazy long in the arms. Not too hot even on warm day.
