any good for rocks/rocks/and more rocks?
what about gloop?
are there any other 650 b combos that can be had for under £40 that will perform any better round sheffield/peaks etc
I find them 'OK' - not biggest grippers, especially in mud. But they are supple, make great summery to autumn tyres, good braking, reasonable all-rounders.
Chunky comes up huuuuuge, and draggy in 2.4 size (quel surprise)
On rocks round here they are OK.
I've some £16 (a pair, with free Camelback bottle) Vittoria Goma's that seem faster rolling for similar grip and suppleness. See OnOne.

good for rocks struggle when its really muddy
I don’t know about the 650b version but the Chunky Monkeys are great, front and rear, for dry limestone descents in Greece. I don’t find them any draggier than, say, Maxxis DHF/DHR.
This is the 26” Trail Extreme version, btw - but yes, great for rocks.
I found you need a wideish rim width to get the Chunky Monkeys to be a decent shape.
A little underwhelmed with the 650 version (CM) I had, and it wasn't great tubeless (quite baggy on the rim I had). The CM and Smorgasbord combo on my 26er rigid SS have been very good though. Quite draggy on tarmac, but less so on the trails. Cheap. And reasonable as an all season tyre.
Just put a set on my winter shed build bike. CM front, Smorgasbord rear.
They went up tubeless with a track pump on Pacenti TL28 rims yesterday & stayed at 40psi overnight with no sealant in there.
Still to see how they fare out on the trail.
