[#540556]

Mrs Tops has approved the purchase of a new frame later this year, however after thinking long and hard I think I'll keep my '04 5 Spot as I love everything about it.

So I'm gonna do it up, change all of the ageing bits, new fork/shock, powder coat etc.. While I'm at it I fancy ftting some longer rockers, I believe the 5.3 ones will fit without messing with cable stops etc. I can't find these anywhere, always thought they were widely available. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not actually sure they were ever that widely available, but it would be worth contacting the distributor, Silverfish, to find out. Or even try dropping an email to Turner themselves as they have fantastic customer service, and should be able to sort you out.

I don't believe they are that cheap though, so if might be worth keeping an eye on the classifieds as they do turn up every now and again.

I would drop an email direct to Turner. Silverfish have only just started to import them (plus they will probably triple the price).

Push did make some, but they upped the rear to 5.7"... and I don't think they make them any more.

Mail me, tops 5 - I have a set of 5.3 rockers lying around as I put the 5.5s on instead (to my 05 Spot).

beware the powdrcoaters...............

the shot blasting can reduce an aluminium frame to a cross between tinfoil and swiss cheese in seconds.

Thanks guys - have checked the Push site already - was suprised they weren't there.

Spoon - after reading a few threads re. powdercoating on here, I think I will be ok if I pay a bit more and go to a bike specialist.

Just had mine done by windridge - they dip it in chemicals to strip the old paint rather than shotblasting.

0.2" at a guess
I see. And the extra 0.2" of travel will transform the handling in what wondrous way?

In reality, no difference probably. In the rider's head, night & day difference. It's an upgrade, it scratches an itch.

I changed from 5.1 to 5.5 and regreted it !!

It changed the ride geometry of the bike so much so that i sold it, just left with my Flux now

found I had to scratch that same itch with my cove... new paint will do that... the rockers wont... if you like 'everything about it' then paint and forks will go a long way... Have you thought about getting it anodized??

Did you think about putting the old rockers back on?

Mmmm. I put Pikes on with the 5.5 rockers, PUSH'd the Pikes and a new PUSH'd RP23 and it's way better than before (Manitou Minute 3's which were good, but DHX Air was not). But most of that is down to the rear shock. Best improvement was a respray!

You'll find plenty on this forum with 5.3 rockers lying about I expect. A good number of us have 'upgraded' to 5.5's.

If all falls through, I've got some too.

Travel wise, there's bugger all difference, perhaps a little more linear deeper in the stroke if you were looking really hard.

But laterally, they're quite alot stiffer. That makes more of a difference for a fat lad like me.

I'm no lightweight either Science! Starting to think that there won't be enough difference to justify the ****ing about.

Personally, I'd not bother going from 5.1 to 5.3. Since the rocker design is the same, you're only going to see the 0.2" travel increase, with no stiffness increase.

I depends on how much you value that 0.2, or scratching the upgrade itch.
