I currently ride 5.10's and think they're the best thing ever for riding on flats. I hear that Shimano now have equally sticky shoes. Does anyone know if the AM41's are the equal of 5.10's for flats?
My AM40's (same sole as 41's) are very sticky with easton flatboys. The pedals pins actually lock into the tread of the patterned sole, very clever system.
I had AM 40s and they are sticky but not as sticky as 5 10s. They were much better than any non bike specific shoe in terms of grip, but just not as tacky as stealth rubber.
I liked the lightness and the way they dried out quicker than 5 10s. I also like the toe box and stiff sole. I didnt like the way they started to fall apart after 6 months.
I went for FiveTen Freeriders, mainly because they look waaaay nicer than the alternatives and still grip like the proverbial to a blanket.
Jimjam +1, except I have AM41s and they are only a few rides old so can't comment on durability.
Seem much better than Five 10s in wet weather though and feet stay on pedals (Nano flats) fine.
No problems with durability of my AM40's - been used regularly since last September. The sole is a little cut up in places but I use long pins so that's not surprising.
They are also extremely comfortable (I did change the standard insole for a more supportive set of Superfeet green insoles).
