Looking to lighten up the front of my bike, and replace my vice stem. What length stem are you using, and what rise bars? Also, what's the generally accepted 'norm' for bar width, as i'm finding 685mm a touch wide?

Cheers

depends on what size the frame is, how tall you are, how long your arms are and your personal preferences.

I'm 6'3", ride a 20" summer season with 70mm stem and 685mm bars with 20mm rise. I've got a long body and arms and wide shoulders and the set up feels fine. If you're finding 685mm too wide then get some narrower bars (I've got a set of 660mm bontrager race bars off a Trek ex-8 if you're interested) . How much weight are you going to save by changing the stem anyway?

5' 10" and a bit with an 18" frame. Bars are low rise 680mm Monkey Lites with a 100mm Ritchey 6 degree stem...but flipped. Tried a 90mm stem and the Ritchey stem the right way up, but it felt light on the climbs at the front. The flipped stem has helped a bit. I fancy trying some of the Ritchey 10D flat bars but too expensive at the moment.

6'5", 35" inside leg. Mine was a 20" with a 100mm stem on. I hate really wide bars - 26"/660mm is the widest I ride with.

Im 5'11 with a 18" 456 and have a 70mm FR200 stem and 660mm/1" rise bars, although I have used 2" in the past.

If I was buying bars again I'd probably go a tad wider, maybe 1-2cm each side.
