[#13535419]

For a folding ebike hence the odd 40mm size.

Could probably form one out if some 2.5mm ally or get it machined perhaps but is there one commercially available?

Thanks!

Hope it's ok to bump this mods in case anyone can help. If not I'll look into a DIY job.😁

You can buy shim metal off the roll.

If you have an engineer near to you then you might be able to get a couple of offcuts (2.5mm is standard and some thin stuff) otherwise it'll be spendy metre lengths

You'll get a choice of metal if you're really lucky as well

Drinks can and tin slips for a clean cut.  Ally, or steel available to suit sirs preferences/galvanic corrosion needs.  Tango was still steel last time I checked.

Ignore - I read 39.9 - 40!

“40mm” push-fit waste pipe is 41mm o/d, so with a slit cut in it could work. Cheap too!

3d print?

I’ve successfully done a couple for 31.6 - 27.2 for use on more conventional bikes, but the extension on a folder probably rules out non-metallic shims, especially 3d printed.

My only other though would be hunting Ali-express, seems to be awash with (some quite niche) folding bike spares, which subsequently get marked up when resold in Europe…

I'm intrigued - why wouldn't 3d print work? Just interested in case I ever buy a printer.

It might work but the extra mechanical advantage of a 2ft post would put it under a lot more stress than the shorter extension on my road bike.

The plastic you use its a big factor, I´ve managed to get away with 100% infill PLA, which is actually quite a brittle material you have other options like ABS or PETG or Carbon infill PLA but cost Vs function Vs potential for failure, for the application I´d certainly trust an Aluminium or Injection moulded shim far more TBH.

3D printing is handy, but it´s not always the best option for everything. In fact what would probbly make more sense is 3D printing a mould to make the final part in Carbon, at which point the sunk cost and time is running away from you...
