Hello, I'm new to this forum. Seems I got the question right! My son is 4 1/2 and at the moment on a little yellow stinger we bought second hand. Despite this he's able to do little stunts - ride up and down the "bike bumps" and can manage quite long rides - sometimes can't see his legs move because they're going so fast to get up speed... He needs a new bike (16"). Unfortunately I don't have the money for an Islabike - which would be my preference. Thought I'd ask on here to see what would you recommend for around £100. I've looked on ebay but there is nothing near us (no one seems to want to post).

I have a virtually unused 14" Boys bike complete with full face helmet for sale. I know you are looking at possibly a 16" but this one suited my eldest until she was 6.

I sold my 16" Islabike for £85 to a friend. If possible, that's what I'd try and obtain.

Thanks for your posts. Hammy your bike looks lovely - it looks new! I do think he needs a 16" though. I have waited too long really to get him a new one - tut tut. Back to ebay searching I think.

I've no idea if they're any good, but I noticed that Halfords seem to be having a sale on kids' bikes when I was getting some oil at the weekend.

It's no lightweight but I have a Mongoose 'Moto Micro' 16" wheeled BMX that you could have on long term loan if you're anywhere near Leeds ,it did belong to my 7 year old whose now moved onto a 20" wheeler and I'm just storing it till his little brother (nearly 2) is big enough to ride it.
This pic is when we first got it ,now has smooth surface tyres and I ground the rims so the brakes were a bit keener.theres a full pad set and I have the knobbly tyres in my massive pile of tyres in the shed.

We went to Halfords this afternoon. I think we might now be banned! He tried the one you linked to Gordy - but preferred one with a bubble gun on the back. I'm loathe to spend £99 on a bike that will lose so much value and really doesn't have any of the pros other bikes have.

I'm going to have a look at the Decathlons. Never heard of them thanks for the info.

There are quite a few Ridgeback's on ebay at the moment but they all look really worn and I'd like to get him something that looks ok if it's going to be for Christmas.

We're in Devon Carlosg - but thanks so much for the offer!

Definitely interested in anyone's old bikes they might be wanting to pass on though. Have you got any pics gavtheoldskater?

Pook the feeling is mutual!

That's one of the benefits of the Islabike.

My daughter's first one cost £90. I sold it after 2 years for a £10 loss.

Really nice bikes if you can stretch to the cost.

Ridgeback mx16 are great little bikes - but around £140 new. Worth looking out for one second hand - several on eBay.

Hell yeah! The one with the bubble gun is bound to be better. I wouldn't really worry about the spec at that age. If it's got wheels and he likes to ride it then job done. I could wheelie a ****ing plastic tractor when I was wee, pardon my French.

My eldest has a Ridgeback mx16 - bought off eBay for about 50 quid... Took a while to find one in such good condition for a decent price but got there in the end. Nicely put together bike but, as mentioned above, don't worry about the spec too much, they don't care as much as we do. My lads mates ride around on a right mixed bunch of bikes - but they all have fun whatever they ride.
