Hi at the moment I've got 3x9 but I've just bought an slx crankset and am considering 2x9. But do I need to change front mech an shifter or just NOT change up to top ring. I know this is probably a dumb question. Or do I just man up an go to 1x9
Cheers

Rich

You take off one ring and adjust the end stops on the front mech. Job done. Optionally, consider fitting a bash guard or a slightly larger "middle ring" (now your big ring).

I swapped from 3x9 to 1x9 and its the best move I ever made. I never really used the granny ring anyway if I'm honest.
Save some weight by 1 ring set up to!! You may need a chain guide though. I had to have one fitted as I took the bike to guisborough forest and the chain kept coming off on rocky descents, once chain guide installed the chain hasn't dropped once! so bear that in mind if your planning on 1x9!

Well I'm moving to a lapierre spicy soon so hopefully can get by till then an have chain guide on that. Is it the front mech that makes the difference of the chain not jumping off then. Also if I've got 36t on front do I have to have a 40t bash or 1 same as the ring
