[#7598444]

Evening,

My existing 32t chainring is nearly worn out, so pondering trying an oval chain ring.
Have Goldtec/betd stopped doing them - not listed on their website? xcracer showing as out of stock.

What other oval rings are out there for singlespeeds that are in stock?

Would a narrow-wide ring work with a 1/8th SS chain?

This is for a Kona Unit - should there be space against the chainstay, or will I need to space out the BB to give more clearance?

NW works fine but had to modify (dremel a chamfer) 2 of the tabs on my old cranks for the 1/8 chain to clear. That was 32t though, the 34 may well clear the tabs.

Superstar and Ab Black rings, XT and Zee cranks, same issue. Spacers didn't work, too thick.

I find that 33T narrow/wide oval chainrings are the AWSUMZ for ssing.

Richard - I think that issue is just on 32t chainrings.

Stu - any in particular? I've only found even numbers?

Works Components are great and reasonably cheap. The round one I had before my current oval is 18 months old and showing minimal signs of wear, it's been shifted to another bike now.

You need to look on more ss specific sites for 33T,35T and 37T narrow/wide rings.
Try CTBM he has all niches covered.
If they're not on the site give him a ring and he'll sort you out.

Are they kept next to the glass hammers and left handed screwdrivers? 😉

Serious answer.
Don't believe the hype about oval giving you "extra" power on climbs.
I was told by a few people how you can go up 2 teeth and still be fine on climbs...
Swapped from a 32 round to a 33 oval and on one hill on a local ride that is right on my limit became above my limit.
What i did find they helped with is spinning on the flat.
There are now loads of places making N/W oval rings. Try Works Components or Absalute Black for a bit blinger option.
