for a laugh converted my single speed to a 3 speed using an old sram cassette that had fallen apart with old xt mech and 9 speed shifter.
stays in gear fine but shifting is hit and miss - would it be better with the left hand shifter?

Go really retro and use a Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub gear. Much nicer.
