The 36t SLX middle ring I was using on my 2x9 [LX cranks] setup is now dead. It's been OK, but before I order another there may be something better out there, any recommendations?

Raceface and Middleburn have been good to me.

is there a middle ring on a 2x9, surely the only middle ring will be on the back?

My middleburn 27/40 front rings seem nice.

How do you find the 40t on the front? I was considering changing from 36t to 38t for a bit more speed.

The 27/40 just seems a 'right' combination of gears, covers everything but the extremes. I hardly ever used the big ring and I prefer to stand if it gets past the point of the 27/34 granny.

I used to run TA Chinook 28/40, found it a very good combination for a more XC-esque double, either way the Chinook rings are very good.
