thinking about buying a new frame which will involve the inevitable move to 27.5, so new forks and wheels too.
playing with my budget and trying to build in a best guess for what i'd get for my old frame & forks. normally i go on 1/3 original price for good quality kit in reasonable condition that's fairly recent (less than 5 year old). however it's in deeply unfashionable / doesn't work any more / will kill you if you ride it, 26" flavour - will this best guess formula still stand up or is anything 26" second hand dropping like a stone in value?
Depends on what frame/forks/wheels they are.
More of a myth tbh. A good bike is a good bike. It's more over finding the market for a 2nd hand bike that is 5 years old.
Doesn't mean you'll get what you want for it. The kicker here is the age vs potential market rather than the fact its 26".
mark 2 carbon nomad and fox 36 rlc forks, wheels are pretty trashed so won't include them in the sale budget. all less than 4 years old
I think it's the very high-end stuff that suffers the most from the 26" pox, especially now manufacturers have figured out how to sell a good frame with basic/decent finishing kit for the mid-£2k price-range, and not just the mail order ones.
As for OPs bike, a quick look tell me people are still asking for £2500+ for their 26" Carbon Nomad builds - not sure how quickly they'll sell though, the as of today 'old' Bronson C starts at £2800 brand new and of course YT sell a pretty much perfect 6" Carbon speed machine starting at £2500.
@P-Jay yeh i head a search of and found a fair few complete bikes at the 2.5K mark which i thought was a little ambitious.
as i say, planning on selling frame & forks seporately on their own. do we think for budgeting purposes only, around £900 for the frame and £300 for the forks is realistic?
I think you'd get a pretty quick sale at those prices.
There is def a trend.
I picked up a 2013 Saracen Ariel 162 for £1000 and its mint, thats a £3600 new!
next question - whats the best channel for selling higher end mtb parts second hand - ebay, pink bike, here, all of the above??
