Anyone buy a 29'r so they can go mountain biking and also use it as a more effective cyclocross??
more effective? in what way
maybe effective is the wrong word but cx on a 26 doesnt seem great to me. but i would assume that a cx bike would be faster then a 29'r mtb in cx race as its designed for it and lighter with more aero position. whether a 29 v 26 is faster on a course is unknown to me really but at least would be able to use some cx tyres on 29 and maybe ad some drops on a 29 would look more cx.
maybe i should be asking if cx racers prefer 26" mtb or 29'rs hmmm
i have lots of 29ers and have at some point fitted cross tyres to most of them, and even done a cple of cross races, the only downside other than position/gearing/ weight is that the cross tyres drastically lower your bb height so you tend to get a bit more pedal strike on rocky ground
You could always just buy a cross bike and ride it everywhere.
