What lightweight xc wheelset for £300-£350 I am looking at hope on crests but dont know what else is anygood.
Mavic TN719 here, great for tool free tyre changes.
Built onto something like Pro2's or XTR hubs...
Hope Pro2 Crests here. No issues. Good weights.
For general xc duty it's difficult to look past crest hope hoops. Or are you looking for wheels to race on?
General XC with 4 to 5 endurance races.

Similar dilemma here. Been looking around but will probably go for Crest Pro2 Hope Hoops. Weight is ok. Price is good (seen a pair for £260.) Easy to get spares and service. Easy to convert between hub standards. Runs tubeless nicely. The weight weenie niggle is the only thing delaying the purchase!
Edit: Some of the german sites had good deals on Fulcrum wheelsets too. And Superstars Crest on Switch are worth a look.
After looking at the same options I ordered some WTB Strykers from CRC as they seemed a bargain at £240 for the pair (alleged RRP £700!) and came with 15mm front and 142x12 rear hubs so I didn't even have to buy any conversion kits. They are hand built, use a WTB branded version of the American Classic hubs, have triple butted bladed spokes and decent welded rim with internal bracing which should be much stiffer than a Crest (the rims are about 50g heavier than a Crest each but the wheelset is 150g lighter than a set of Hope Hoops due to the hubs and spokes). They can also take UST or standard tubeless ready tyres which seems handy.
I should get to test mine round CyB at the weekend, if they are crap I'll stick the new version of the light-bicycle carbon rims on the WTB hubs and spokes which should make a mega stiff < 1500g wheelset for under 500 quid.
Edit: They seem to have gone back up in price a little on CRC now since I ordered at the weekend.
I've built some stans arch EX's on A2Z hubs, came to about 1800g.
Thinking of selling them as I'm looking at new frames with bolt through rear wheels (the front will apaprenly accept 15mm American Classic addapters).
hi, where are the crest pro2s 250? I am after a pair, thanks in advance.
Winstanleys was mine Poolman.
Any opinions on the Stans wheelsets with their own 3.30 hubs? See they can be had for around £330.
Love them hubs will never bet hope relaibility but the price and ride is great.
Going purely off specs the Hope Hoops wheelset seems a bit heavy at 1750g for a noodly 390g Crest rim in my book.

Yes, that's the only weight weenie reservation I have. Think the 3.30 wheelset is quite a bit lighter.
I had the same dilemma as the OP, went for american classic XCs. Lighter, stiffer and have been ace.
The 3.30 wheelset is 1575g on the Wiggle page.
American Classic race 29s are supposedly stiffer than the Crests and way lighter but just over £500.
I have the Stans Crest wheelsets with their own 3.30 hubs.
Had them since last spring. They have been excellent. Stayed true, nice n light, hubs still spinning smoothly. Got em under £300.
Boringly I've followed the crowd and gone Crests on Hope P2's and DT Spokes..
Though I'm thinking of changing to Carbon Rims and looking at Reynolds or SRAM 60's, keep the Pro 2's though as easy to maintain.
Baaa, Baaaa
Carax... under 300 quid?
I've just picked up a set of Gian PX-C's unused and new for £60 🙂
15mm front, QR rear... they're lovely.... they're my new 'slow' wheels for trailcentres with heavier tyres, the Hopes will be my light XC race wheels.
My Hope Hoops with Pro2 Evo and Crest 29er rims came in at 1715g with blue tape. Thought that was pretty good, particularly for the price. Was looking at the 3.30 hubs but it didn't seem worth paying the extra for 50g-ish saving on each wheel...if I could have got them for under £300, I probably would have gone for the 3.30.
Anyone know what the 3.30 are? I think Stan's buy them in and re-brand them.
