My mates just bought a 29er that has Crossmarks as standard so needs to get some tyres better suited to the other 48 weeks of the year.

Is the selection that great out there, any recommendations please?

good news, just bought a pair of beavers but was surprised at how shallow the tread is. Looks almost like a racing ralph. Haven't fitted them yet, and this perception may be because they wer ein teh same box as a pair of Big Bettys!

I use Bonti 29-4's in winter and think they're great.
In the dryer months I have a Bonti 29-3 TLR on the rear.
Works for me.

Mud X on the back, 29-4 on the front, run nice and squishy.

I got a pair of Nobby Nics but they both had a wobble and have been replaced under warranty. Didn’t really want to take a chance on another pair so I asked them to get down a pair of Beaver and MudX tyres. Beaver = lighter, bigger volume, shallower tread. MudX = deeper wider tread and tubeless ready. Went with the MudX!

the beaver went up tubeless no problem and sizing is very marginally bigger than a 1.9 mud x it rolls quicker than the mud x

Rigid Scandal 29er runs on Panaracer Rampages pretty much all year round. Not true mud tyres but handle most things OK. Will certainly be better than the crossmarks.

Only got a 29 front wheel these days, but Mud X for proper mud. FR-3 for rocks roots + the rest.

I survived plenty of sloppy rides around Delamere on Racing Ralphs but you don't need a mud plugger tyre on a 29er, I found the Bonty 29-3 quite good but not overly sticky, the ardent worked well but a better all rounder is the Ignitor

The Beaver felt light in hand but has anyone actually weighed one to check if they’re coming in close to what the reviews say?
