Good morning all,

One of my riding buddies has a Commencal Meta AM 29er. He noticed yesterday the rear tyre had worn through the paint on the seat tube. We were both stuck as to why this has happened, even under full compression of rear shock there should be clearance right? He put some more air in the shock and is now planning to fit some heli tape.

Any ideas how this is happening and how else to prevent it? The rear tyre is original spec.

Cheers.

Wheel moving in the dropouts? Wheel out of true/round? Play in the hub? Bulge in tyre/tube?

Rubbing just caused by mud/debris?

None of those as far as we could see. It looks like the wheel is moving too far, but why?

What tyre? Some tyres are just too big - SB66s had that issue too (thik they sorted it for later ones).

Could you have the wrong stroke shock?

Take all the air out the shock and see if you can get the tyre to touch, if it does touch you need to fit smaller tyre our adjust/change the shock.

Is his tyre picking up mud & then scraping it off against the frame ?
