[Closed] 29er tyres more easily punctured??

So i've been running tubeless for 3 years - mostly with Scwalbes on 26" wheels. Never had a major issue - perhaps the odd sidewall problem, but punctures on the tread part of the tyre have mostly been sealed with Stans while out riding.

I bought a 29er recently - bought a racing ralph snakeskin for the rear. 4 weeks in I've now gone through 2 racing ralphs and cut short 4 rides in total now. Each time the wheel has punctured all the sealant - and I put plenty in - sprayed out and failed to seal. 1 tyre I binned after failing to get it to re-seal with new sealant when i got home. Not looking too promising with the second tyre to the point I ordered a Continental online last night.

I shook the crap out of the sealant bottle before putting the sealant in.

What's going on? Why all of a sudden am i having a 'mare with tubeless?

It may be that you are just rubbish at riding a 29er?

There is, literally, no other explanation.

You wouldn't have this problem with 650b wheels.

Sounds like you've got some duff sealant.
Please feel free to send me these tyres that won't seal though.
I'll just put a patch on the inside and bang some good sealant in.

Ride em slower.
They were'nt kidding when they talked about exploding wheels you know. It's only gone quiet cos it killed/maimed most of the 29er riders.

Are you using 29er specific sealant? Think that might be your problem!

You have to remember to turn left as much as you turn right. Otherwise the sealant congregates on one side due to the higher forces. This is the real reason riders say they can't work the trails as much with the wagon wheels.
A heavier sealant with a wolfram component will flow back easier on the straights.

*pours a bottle of sealant on the ground, for the brothers that passed away*

It's because the tyres have got a greater circumference.
For each turn of the wheel, there's more tyre touching the ground, so it's more likely to get a puncture.
Think about it, shopping trollies have got tiny wheels and you never see them with punctures.

Its actually because the larger wheels dampen out sooo much of the trail you don't know if you have ridden over anything that could increase chances of getting a puncture. Obviously this is enhanced by using 650b as this exploits the best of both worlds.

IMHO

Clearly the extra speed of the 29er meant you couldn't see the impending thornmageddon traps that you'd otherwise ride around on the 26er.

Have you thought about enhanced 29er riding glasses to allow for this?

[serious]

Stans usually seals up some fairly big holes and cuts if you keep on riding - thorns, big bits of plastic, metal etc. Don't pull the thing out. Just ride, top up with air if needed. Then patch when you get home.

Or use an anchovy if needed.

[end of serious]

29ers puncture less, not more.
