Usually run the usual 32 x 16 on my 69er Singlespeed but just finished building my 29er rigid up an i've gone for 32 x 16 again..am i about to blow my legs apart?!
I've checked gear iches its about 51inch on 32x18 compared to 57in on the 32x16 28er. How how does that transfer? Got a 50km planned tomorrow 🙁

32x20 i am a softie.
On my singlespeed I am running 32:18 in the summer and 32:20 in the winter when the going is a little harder (and I am unfit) I also like to spin rather than mash the pedals (unless I have to!)
Normally ride 34:18 fixed all year round and suffer for it 🙂 Waiting to try out the 34/20 & 36/18 dinglespeed set-up*

A 32:16 on a 29" wheel will be equivalent to 32:14.35T on a 26" wheeled bike
Obviouslya 14.35T sprocket doesn't exist, but the third smallest on a 11-32T casette is a 14T, the third smallest on an 11-34T casette is a 15T. So in between.
It basically going to be 1.1154 times as hard to ride in the same gear. It maybe that thats too high for the terrain you ride with whatever level of fitness you may have
A 32:16T on a 26" wheeled bike is equivalent to a 32:17.85T on a 29" wheeled bike. So the closest is a 32:18T setup (assuming still using a 32T front ring?) which is slightly easier, but not by much. The extra wheel weight will probably more than make up for the slightly easier gearing anyway

Got no worries on most things on 32 x 16 on my 69er so should be ok.I'm singlespeeding transwales so i'll need the extra strength anyway
I've been running 34:18 on my 29er Solitude. That's about the same as 32:15 on a 26" bike and I manage most climbs round Hamsterley. I do a bit of road on it too, so don't mind the slightly higher gear too much.
For off-road only, unless racing on flattish courses, I'd go a bit lower. My Inbred is 32:17, which I really like off-road.
