I'm keen to get a 29er Scandal for commuting - just a couple of quick queries if folk can help me out. I'd intend to run a Alfine hub - either 8 or 11-speed.
The ones currently for sale are vertical drop outs. Do I just need to get the Alfine tensioner that they also sell to make it all work sweetly, or should I wait for the swappable dropout version that they'll have available soon?
What mudguards do folk on use (if they are used for commuting) as I don't think it has any mudguard eyes on the frame or fork?
Many thanks folks
FTM

If I was buying a Scandal for use with a hubgear, I'd get the vertical dropout and use an external EBB.

Makes it much easier to drop the wheel out with all the gubbins attached.

There's only about a halflink of adjustment with these, but my answer to that if you couldn't get the tension right would be to add a tooth to either the front or rear cog. It's not as critical as with a single speed when you have gears.

I've got both, and the simplest to set up is the first one.

Why not get a commuter then? Loads of bikes out there for the job that are fitted up like this.

Don't know why the OP's reason, but I know why it would appeal.

Nothing better than being able to nip offroad on your commuter. ๐Ÿ™‚

Plus if you have ever ridden on 2.35 Big Apples you won't want any truck with skinny tyres except for racing.

I'm 6'5'' so it would have to be a 21 i'm afraid bunnerscj.
The thing about the Scandal 29 + Alfine is that it would be perfect for my commute, but with the potential to add some knobblies in the winter, or as epicyclo says to nip offroad on the commute home...

What about going for the On-One Pompetamine Frame with the slidy dropout instead?

Been using an ss 29er inbred for the last year to commute with, mixture of on and off road for my commute, not found any mud guards to fit yet either?

Or a genesis day one alfine.
Good plan but definately dispense with tensioner.
Rear facing dropouts ok -I had an on one that had these that I used with gears fine ( think they have mech hangers on them ).
I would prob get an EBB frame - singulars are nice.
Just building an Alfine that I bought from on one.
J.
