currently running DT470 rims. I know stans crest are 380 ish but I don't need tubeless so what are the alternatives for a XC rim?

+1 for light bicycle carbon rims at 390g -/+10g.
Mine shipped on Saturday, probably got a week of waiting now though.

Depwnds if you are a big unit or not. The goldtec boys have got hold of some 380g 29er rims that build into a mentally light 29er wheelset but the rider weight limit is for whippets only.

The TL28 is 438g - not much under. There's always the TL25 (392g), but that's what I have on my cross bike.
Saying that, it seems pretty strong (I'm not very subtle on the cross bike as I tend to swap between it and a 140mm fs bike), but check that you're ok with the tyre profile on a narrow rim.

Well technically they build into exactly the same weight of wheelset as Crests, or those LightBicycle rims, but 160g heavier than the new Stan's Valor wheels, or 250g heavier than using AX Lightness SRT CC29 rims.

So really, seeing as the Crest is a very popular rim, probably the single most popular 29er rim, they build into an extremely average weight set of wheels. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sure they're very good though!

Just one of those things that amuses me.

Q: "How light can I get a build on X frame?"
A: Well, Heinz Wittman built an 11lb Scott Scale, X frame weighs 2lbs more, so 13lbs.

Their carbon rims look interesting, surprisingly they're not the LightBicycle-esque ones that brands like Strada appear to just stick their decals on.

From memory I fink I got the weights wrong as I know they reckon they're about 80g lighter than a crest *shrugs, oh well doesn't affect me, I'm over 75kg in lycra* ryde edge mc1...thats the fellas 310-320 per rim

Which does indeed make them rather light and well priced. 267g for the 26" one ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

If you can live with "only" a 19mm internal width (how times have changed for the better eh!) then the BOR XMD333's are exceptionally tough and stiff for their 360g (in 29er guise) weight. Can also be run tubeless too if required. You gotta be under 90kg though iirc.

They do the XMD388 too, same profile but a bit more material and still quite light at about 430g per rim with a 100kg weight limit too.

Both seemingly available cheaply at SSC right now.

I was umming and ahhing for ages about them (and I ran a set of XMD333's at 24/12, borrowed off a friend, so I know they're good), but in the end decided a wider rim profile was more important to me so went with some Pacenti TL28's. Not a heavy rim either, and a nice 23mm internal width too, and again (as just about every rim except Mavic is now) they can be run tubeless if required.

Stans Arch-EX? Crest width, but heavier/stiffer (still lighter than 470's).

What's wrong with the 470's? Mine have been faultless, although so have my crests.

Roval Traversee aluminium

approx 460gm (allowing for variance in individual rims) for nice and wide, eyeletted rim that has proven very tough in the past 2 years

damn shame you cannot buy them aftermarket! I have managed to garner several from wheelsets with failed stock hubs, rebuilt onto Hope Pro II Evos to great effect.
