Given that the stumpy evo has not changed (frame at least) since 2012...

What do you expect? I find that there are far fewer radical changes now than there were 10 years ago. The best technology has probably already been invented, or at least some ok stuff has been refined to the point of being excellent.

10 years ago you had all sorts going on- 160mm single crown forks, VPP came along, DW Link, Maestro, 29ers were appearing, propedal came along, disc brakes were suddenly not rubbish, uppy downy seatposts had just appeared etc. Since then it's just been refinement- most of the rubbish (apart from 29ers themselves) has fallen by the wayside and the good stuff has got better.

Not sure what i expected really... I'm in the market for a new bike and reading that made me wonder if there was any point. Might as well look at a very cheap 2012 stumpy evo second hand and fit some new bits if there really has been no progress.

still awesome now.

I've got one of those ,as well as a 4 month old Orbea Rallon.

The 2005 enduro is only now starting to feel quite dated, 10 years after I bought it.

I had an Ibis Mojo HD for 4 years before the Orbea, and whilst it was notably better than the enduro , it wasnt better by as much as you might think.

selecting 3 middle of the road mainstream bikes from their advertisers does not represent all 29er full suss bikes.

I'm loving my transition smuggler anyway, don't think so many aggressive short travel 29ers were around 4 years ago but could be wrong
