Looking for a cheap pair of wheels for my cx bike , can i just run a 29er set ? , do they work out the same size or not ?
Havent got a 29er to check so thought id ask the question here
not sure about the theory in terms of spec but, in practice, yes
Different axle spacings for mtb and older cx bikes, you'll need to check your axle spacings too.
Arh never thought about axle spacing , good call , if it helps its a 2014 pinnacle 3 ? .. thought they were 135mm rear etc .. cant cheak at the mo
If it is 135mm spacing, then yes 29er MTB wheels will fit.
I run Pro 2 Evo / Stans Arch EX on my Kona Jake the Snake with 32c SB8's.
I just fitted some 29er wheels to my Kaffenback II XT hubs and Roval rims 21mm with some 700 x 28c Conti tyres ๐
Yes running wtb i19s on mine tubeless
Bolt
Liking the sound of this, 29er wheels seem a cheaper option at the minute , rather than cx wheels ๐ .. guessing as long as the spacings correct and the rim isnt too wide then there shouldnt be an issue ๐
Get a fairly narrow rim, I tried 32mm CX tyres on DT470 rims and the profile was a little odd and those aren't particularly wide rims.

Nah. Wide is good. My Maxxis Raze 35c come up really nicely on Arch EX rims. Lots of volume.
my Stans 29er Crests really didn't like 28mm road tyres, and struggled with 32mm Vittoria tubeless CX tyres too.
28mm gp4 seasons on crests on my kaffenback with out issue here. I've had various CX tyres on in the past too 32-35 mm
i tried some 32mm cx small block 8 on my Pacenti TL28 (23mm internal and wider than crests/arch) and they worked just fine. the profile is squarer but still rounded and engages more of the outer edge. 35mm+ would probably look more traditional looking though.
It works fine if you have to.
