I've not bothered with suspension for about 10 years and I'm now thinking about fitting a suspension fork to my Singular Rooster, it's currently got a Bulldozer 3.25 tyre on the front, I realise this might need to be changed depending on forks available. What's out there that would be suitable?
I think the Manitou Magnum or Pike 29+ would do the job as designed but things like MRP Stage and Fox34 have been reported to fit 29+ but I suspect clearance in these is very tyre/rim specific.
Magnum has been merged into the Mattoc line a while ago, but there's still a 29+ version available.
Is there anything else, more entry level, not sure I want to pay that much.
I am a tight Yorkshireman!!
If you want to keep running the 3.25" tyre you'll need something specific like the 29+ Yari or Pike or the 29+ Manitou forks (they do a Mattoc but also a Machete which is not a good fork).

If you can live with a 29x3.00 Maxxis tyre like the High Roller then your options open up to a wider range, including cheaper forks. I have a Stache that runs a Rockshox Revelation with a 3" High Roller and a mudguard nicely, I've also had Bontrager Chupacabras in there. This is proper clearance, not the fag-paper clearance that some people seem comfortable with on Fox 34s and MRP Ribbons.
If you can life with 3" tyres then an one of the Rockshox forks with the Pike chassis will work- Pike, Revelation and I suspect 35 (but you'd need to confirm that they have the same lowers as the Pike) provided they're Boost and 2018 model year or newer.
Manitou Magnum (as was) is a great fork. As above it's now called something like the Mattoc 29+.
It was OE kit on the higher end Trek Staches, and you can occasionally pick them up second hand.
I got one from the classifieds for £150ish (might have been £160).
Been there done that, although with Puffin. Don't do it, seriously. Singulars were designed to be rigid, 29+ suspension forks have too long A2C and the steering gets really lazy, you'll lose all the fun.
If you really, really want to try it, get second hand Manitou Magnum for 3.25, or any other boost 29 fork for regular 3.00". I was using Suntour Aion35 boost
As above, the Rooster wasn't designed for suspension forks, the rigid forks are quite a lot shorter a2c than a sus fork so will alter the geometry significantly.
An area of relative nicheness I can give my tuppence worth too.....
I ran a 100mm Yari 29 plus on my Rooster. The 29+ Rockshox chasis is 20mm taller AtoC than a non plus fork so a 100mm Yari has an AtoC of a 120mm form.
This was a little tall for the Rooster but a bit more sag and it ran fine for a winter.
A full plus chasis 29er Rockshox fork will take a 3'' tyre comfortably on a 50mm rim.
My boost Fox 34 will take a 3'' tyre but not really will useable clearance. 2.8'' tyre on a 50mm rim is fine.
If I were looking at a new fork now on a budget I would be looking at the new boost Judy range. RS stipulate a 2.8'' max tyre but a 3'' will fit.
I've got magnums on my stache which have been great, will easily fit a 3" DHF and mudguard and I've been really pleased with the performance of them.
A word of caution on the Manitou forks.
I briefly had one of their dedicated 29 plus forks - I forget what it was called - in the Pro spec. Lovely, lovely fork - I would say a nicer quality that the comparable Rockshox but they were even taller again AtoC.
Cheers everyone, I will carefully consider my options...🤔
I'm running a Manitou mastodon Pro EXT for my 29+ wheels, but that is of course on a 150mm front hub. At 140mm travel, yes a very long A-C, but I designed a custom ti frame around it so it all works out OK. I can recommend going down this route too 🙂
As I've mentioned in another thread, manitou pro forks (mine is based on dorado dampers with the IVA air thingy) is the best performing fork I have ever owned, maybe with the exception of an old coil lyrik about 10yrs ago.
True story about Manitous. They are taller then rest of bunch.
That's 29x3 Minion DHF on Mastodon Pro. Loads of space:

Sitting on i45 Scraper rim.
Below same Minion on Halo Vapour 50 on standard 2020 Pike 29er:

OKish, but definitely no more space for anything bigger than 3"
Cheers!
I.
To add another data point: A Bomboloni on 35mm internal will fit in a Fox 34 with 6-7mm all round.
No comment on whether it’s a good idea in your case or not! Just adding to the thread as I would have appreciated knowing these compatibilities when I was building mine up.
