Does anyone still make a proper 29+ 3.00” tyre anymore? A quick look on the inter webs is not yielding much 🙁

Alternatively, if anyone has a vee bulldozer 29x3.25 or similar gather dust in the garage!! 🙂

Sorry not exactly what you’re after but I have a nearly new WTB Ranger 29x3 if that’s of any use? It’s only been ridden a few times. Drop me a message if it’s any use.

I've got Maxxis DHF/DHR in 29x3. They're fairly easy to come by.

My Bulldozer awaits new wheel to complement my re-freshed build.
Also, just in December I think, managed to import from Germany 2 pieces of Duro Crux, another 3.25 rubber.
It was from some rather obscure, Bavarian, unicycle web shop. You might give it a go. I prefer Crux to Bulldozer. Bulldozer is the most self steering tyre I ever tried. So probably not such an issue at rear, but I wouldn't put it back at front, where it was initially residing...

Cheers!
I.

Bikemonger appear to have Surly Dirt Wizards.

A quick look and some of the Bontager tyres are available on the trek website

Bontrager have stock of the SE4 and XR4, just not the XR2 which is a bit tame anyway if you're looking at Cruxes.

If you can live with 2.8s CRC have Maxxis Rekons in, and Bike Inn have WTB Vigilantes in a variety of casings-

I swapped from 29x3.0 Chronicle to 29x2.8 Rekon with a combination of 3C Compound Front and Dual on the rear.

Lighther and faster. Chronicle was at 15PSI and Rekon is at 17PSI.

Still have reasonably worn Chronicles, unlikely to go back.

DHF/DHR too heavy. 29x3 Rekon would be perfect.

@andyg1966 good shout on the Rekons, as Maxxis seem to have discontinued the Chronicle these appear to be a good substitute.

Cheers for the chronicles link.

I think it's time to start amassing 29+ tyres while I can still get them.

The Douro crux 3.25 is my favourite plus tyre - the one I have mounted has a split right near the bead, and won’t tubeless anymore. Ideally I’d like to get a couple.

ivanMTB - do you have the web site for the Bavarian unicycle shop please.

I loved the Vee Bulldozer and didn’t find it self steered. Best monster truck, nigh on indestructible plus tyre I’ve tried. The bombolini would get a flat if the wind was too strong. The one I had appeared to be made out of tracing paper. Dirt Wizard always seems readily available online and is a good front tyre choice.

Isn’t the Dirt Wizard more like a 2.8” though?

Finger is hovered on the Bombolonis, not worth it?

I’ve run Minions all winter in 29+, bombproof but very heavy and draggy. Swapped them out for Teravail Coronado 2.8”s at the weekend; wow, so fast I’d forgotten what fast rolling tyres like that we’d like. Still plenty of volume too so worth a look at.

I've run bombonlonis on everything from park days, to Bikepacking to 24hr racing and they've never missed a beat.

I asked https://shop.maxxis.co.uk a couple of weeks ago when they were expecting 29x3.0 minions back in stock, and the reply was not in the foreseeable future.

CRC had three 29x2.8 rekon+ in stock last week, but putting them in the basket price jumped up by £20, which I thought was poor. Unsurprisingly out of stock now.

Have some Bontrager 29 x 3.0 XR4s inbound

Late to the thread, but I generally run WTB rangers most of the year, XR4 up front sometimes over winter. Got a cheap XR2 which I've not been overly impressed with compared to the ranger, particularly cornering. Tried chronicles when I first got the bike, and although fast rolling (relatviely!) I found the grip pretty lacking, though might depend where you ride.

Update: I’ve taken Gotamas WTB Ranger out for a couple of rides, impressions so far, well it’s not a 3” tyre, 2 .8” actually, and looks pretty small compared to the Duro Crux. But it’s 350g lighter, rolls pretty well and grips pretty well in current dry conditions, so pretty pleased with it 👍. Overall it’s opened my eyes to smaller tyres, though I think I’ll draw the line at a genuine 2.8”.

A Bontrager XR4 arrived this morning, looks like a beast! Measures 195mm flat across (same as the Ranger) so I’m not expecting it to be a genuine 3” either, though still 110g lighter than the Crux. I might mount it up for my next ride.
