I bought a socket to undo the top caps on my 2008 Wotans but despite looking like a pretty standard socket, it's too fat to fit between the bolt and the crown casting.
So, do I:
a) get it ground down. If so, does anyone know anywhere near Dorking that would do it?
b) get a socket with a thinner wall. If so, where from?

A box spanner would have a much thinner wall

Not sure where you get a 28mm one, though. Just attack the socket with an angle grinder, it doesn't need to be neat.
