can anyone recommend a 27.2 externally routed dropper?
Its for the wife’s bike so won’t be used a great deal so as cheap as poss please. Had a look at the Brand X but theirs are internal at that size. Cheers.
I put a T-mars dropper on the wife's bike they are adequate rather than good but they are cheap. The plan was to try it out and then get a better one if she got on with the concept. Its actually been good enough to stay on there, partly because it is OK and does work and partly due to the lack of 27.2 posts
Cheers Nick, will have a look at those.
There is a cheapo one on eBay type in rdk dropper.
Or I think ks do them but you'll have to do a bit of searching online to find one
At that size and external the only real option is the KS Eten
Ive got one on my hybrid, its not the smoothest/best dropper but it does the job and costs under £100
Also have a Reverb and Brand x, shame Brand x don't make an external 27.2mm dropper
Thomson do make one but your looking at near £400
Thanks for the info chaps. Will have a look at those three tonight.
GF has one of the original RSP Plummets on her old Ti456 - think it's same as the tmars - and it's been fine.
X-Fusion Hi-Lo? I’ve got one (with a Wolftooth lever) on my Hummingbird and it’s fine. Only criticism I have is that it doesn’t top-out audibly (like the Fox Transfer) but otherwise it’s been perfect.
Thomson do one but its quite spendy
I've got a T-mars one you can have for the cost of postage (or pick up from Manchester). Works fine, they're not as nice to use as spendier ones though - you have to put some weight on the saddle to release it before it will come back up.
Hi Sharkey,
I've had an ad in the wanted forum for a while. If cogglepin doesn't take you up on your kind offer may I have it please?
Thanks!
Thanks for the offer Sharkey, very decent of you by the way but if Lister has been after a post for a while let him have it.
Still mulling over which one to get, will have a good look around tonight.
I'm running an ETen, got it for £55 from a German shop through ebay, nothing fancy but works.
Thanks Cogglepin, really kind of you...it’s for one of my kids bikes and should really make their day!
Sharkey, I’ll use the newfangled messenger thing on here to make contact- thanks again.
I have a eten with a southpaw remote and it is really good for the money. It is a closed unit so it can't be serviced and is quite sensitive to cable tension. If money were no object I would get the thompson as it has 25mm more drop.
I had a first gen 27.2 X-Fusion Hi-Lo for years that worked pretty well, and as far as I know it's still going strong on a mate's bike; it has a few quirks but once you get used to it it's solid enough.
I currently have a 27.2 Thompson, which is excellent and has been happy for more than two years of crappy winter weather now, but it was very spendy...
Look on eBay for tranzx 27.2, its the same as the brandx one and the mechanism is at the collar which is handy. Its about £110 or the German sites have them

The RDK stands out for having 125mm drop, and also for somehow being even uglier than the other cheap droppers. I've no personal experience of it but the difference between 100mm and 125mm when riding is pretty considerable so that'd be the one I'd want to try.
I got a KS Lev 27.2d 100mm drop brand new from eBay for around £70 late last year. There were a few sellers at the time for a similar price. I think mine came from Germany so worth doing an international search.
Not internally routed but a lever under the saddle which works well enough. Has lasted for a winter on the rigid single speed and seems like a simple , well designed, well sealed bit of kit.
Here is a 27.2mm KS Lev dropper for £65 posted. I'm pretty sure it is from the same seller that I bought mine from that I described above.

Cheers, peekay.
Looking for one of these, any updates ? Ideally a budget one as not my main bike
Brand X now make an external routed 27.2mm dropper
I returned my faulty KS Eten got a refund and bought the Brand X
The Brand X now has the external cable actuation at the base of the dropper section of post instead of at the seat rail head, the cable nipple goes in at the external base of the post and there is a grub screw on the lever end
30.9 or 31.6 only??
Had a cheap one, a Forca, and it was a terrible thing, wobbled all over the place. Now replaced with a Thomson which is in a totally different league. Forca was about £50 IIRC. The retail on the Thomson is silly but I found a mint second hand one for £230. If that's within budget I'd recommend a used Thomson. No, not selling mine!
Gravity Dropper, surprised nobody mentioned it!

I had one, the remote is terrible and there’s a fair chance of embedding it into your knee. The mechanism is very easy to trigger if you knock the loop of cable, a bit scary.
When the seat clamp snapped I was almost glad.
I got the internal brand x one and fed the cable through the lower of the seat tube bottle bosses. I did angle the hole slightly so the cable exits at the correct angle. Looks really neat!
Got the external brandx 27.2 and works great. Slow return, poor lever but for the money definitely worth buying
30.9 or 31.6 only??
The 27.2mm is currently out of stock but they normally get them back in quite quick
