Anyone done it?

I should rephrase - anyone done it, and been successful?

Thanks. Am lookign at alternatives to Marys, maybe Salsa Woodchippers, or maybe a more traditional (& cheap) set of drops.

Depends on the stem - some aren't happy with that difference. I'd recommend a coke can shim.

*OCD eyeball twitching* But it's not.....right!

I'd only risk it with a 4 bolt clamp stem, that's a lot of faith in 2.

My long haul trucker has been like that for a few years. It's not right but works fine
Wouldn't do it with light weight bits though

Ah - in which case, personally I wouldn't do it. You're putting a lot of point stress on the bars.

Done a fair bit of looking around - I'm kind of unsure - can I ride confortably on road, on the hoods with a bat like the Midge or the Woodchipper? Is a more traditional drop bar a better idea, for a bike that will be mainly road commuter, with only the occasional foray off road (when I have a chance to take the long way)

I have Woodchippers and I'd say that riding on the hoods is more comfortable than on a normal drop bar.

I reckon 0.6mm is a lot less than the tolerance of these parts anyway.

Do it, you will never notice a problem

You know a lot about the tolerances of these things then?

Here's some pictures of some bits from my parts bin:

I reckoned that whilst I was reassuring myself about my recollections of fit I might as well take some piccies 😉

Right.... 25.4 clamp Woodchippers ordered from Jenson USA for a bargain sum - 42cm width, which strikes me as scarily narrow, compared to the 750mm I ride on the Spicy.

Bar tape next - any recommendations, anyone?

Cinelli jelly with something motivational underneath. Like Tunnocks Teacakes wrappers:

Helps on the climbs 😀
