Intrigued by the 26 vs 29 debate, and have one of each. First impressions of the rigid 29er were underwhelming vs the expected wondrous experience as per some reports!, but the bike fitted me well and I enjoyed riding it.

Then rode my 26 (front sus, ti, v light) back to back with the 29er and it really showed huge differences ... 26 felt 'good-twitchy', seemed I was on top of it vs the more relaxed and sitting in-it 29er. The 29er also is remarkably smooth considering no suspension. Ride times around the same route are nigh on identical. Each feels faster at different points. And I tend to be riding the 29er most of the time.

Am guessing relative smoothness is a benefit of larger wheels?

So, on my v unscientific test, how much of the different feel is down to wheel size vs bike geometry? Any thoughts?
