Need a lightweight pair of 26" x 1.8" tyres for some trekking this year. 80/20 on road/trail with a lot of ascending, so looking for something which can handle loose surfaces but has low rolling resistance and does not make excessive road noise (otherwise I'd be taking razer xc's).

Any suggestions?

Conti do a variety of tyres that might do - Mrs TJ has a set of these on her commuter and they are very good indeed

I'd second the Conti Travel Contacts. I've used them for mixed road / light offroad touring and now for commuting around some really rough Devon lanes (we have potholes around here which you could lose a tractor in :D).

Not the lightest but really tough and hard wearing and very puncture resistant.

good on the road is usually rubbish off, especially if the surface is loose. you could have a look at schwalbe hurricanes, pretty cheap though quite heavy. OK in a straight line very quick they don't inspire confidence in gravelly corners.

700gm ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I'd get a light quality semi slick myself, not sure what to recommend. I have some cheap Panaracers which are realy draggy.

i've used the Conti Travel Contacts and they were spot on for doing a few tours on sustrans routes - not tested on mud/rocks mind!
