for you and the way you ride doesn't mean that the rest of the riding world will agree

bought a 29 - loved it. meanwhile my 26" bike got more and more heavy duty (456 w/ pikes) every time i rode it it felt heavy and sluggish, i recently put on a normal stem and bars (70/ 685) and i've been riding it a bit more.

29 is good for longer rides & the 26 is fun for messing around in the woods.

just as mountain bikes haven't replaced CX bikes and cruisers haven't replaced 20" bmx there will always be a place for both 26 & 29. that might not be in your shed, but some will want one, some the other & some will be "bikesexual"!

Kudos, do yourself a favour and demo one...

I've been wanting to get my grubby mitts on one for a while, but I don't know anyone who rides them.

TLR, you only ride smooth easy polished trails, come and ride it round 'sweary northerner' trails, and see how you do on it........ 😆

I'm 5'9" and I think I'm not tall enough for [s]a clown bike[/s] 29" wheels. I imagine for 6"+ septics they're great.

Discuss.

So from that we can take it that 29er wheels are so shit they can't even explode properly.

I went to the singlespeed worlds this summer and there were plenty of folks riding the 29er band waggon.. Now, who was I getting caught up behind on the singletrack uphills, as their supposedly nice rolling bikes were unable to thrutch over even the smallest little rocky lumps?

Jedi - you coached me on my 29er! 😉

I was at the Dyfi Enduro on mine last year. Great bike shame about the course - boring!

Planning to sell my last 26er this month!

Like I said, still have 26", but they're incomparable... Will relent wrt choice, but seriously.... go demo 29" if you've resisted so far... Brilliant....!!!

26 is DEAD???

Hardly. Having demo'd the same bike (all be it that I didn't have it for a month like you did...) I liked it but the HA is a little on the steep side for my liking. It would have been nice to have had it for longer but well, we know what happened there don't we.

Yeah swapping between sizes does take a little bit of getting used to, but it doesn't alter the fact that we've been riding 26 for decades. The 26 is quicker steering in the woods and a bit more chuckable too.

I'm going to dip the toe in the 29er waters but I ain't selling the 26ers anytime soon. Reverted to plan A though.

unless you have a 29er wheel because we all know* that 29er's can't do corners and are only used for fire roads

*based on the evidence of those that have never ridden a 29er and what some bloke told me down the pub
