[#3646622]

Rather stupidly I overtightened the skewer on my front maxle tonight and the end of the through-bolt sheared off. The plastic casing part is still in tact. Does anyone know if:

a) I can buy just the replacement part - i.e. the skewer - and where from?
b) If any normal 9mm QR skewer would work? (long shot)
c) Anyone has a spare 20mm Maxle Lite that they want to sell?

Thanks

Hi bspoked,

The actual skewer rod of the maxle is the same as many normal skewers and i've repaired my own in the past by stripping an old skewer down and using the threaded skewer rod. Pop down to your LBS and see if they have any old skewers lying around.
Its a sound repair and will save you from having to buy a whole new maxle 🙂

I have heard that you can use a rear hope qr for fork maxles, alternatively I have a maxles light from a lyrik that you can have for £10, this won't fit 32mm forks, well it won't fit my pikes anyway.

Can't help you with regards to getting a replacement.
If it makes you feel any better though, I did exactly the same thing. 🙁
Fortunately my LBS had a spare lever & skewer from a standard Maxle that they let me have for nowt. 🙂

The Maxle Light skewer is alloy, the standard is steel.
I now have a Maxle light with a steel skewer. Happy bunny.
