Evening All

I currently have 2017 Fox 36 factory Fit 4’s on my Hightower and was wondering if the latest 36’s with the grip2 cartridge is a worth while upgrade, other than extra adjustments does the latest fork actually ride any different/ better

thanks in advance for any feedback 👍

You can have the new damper fitted to your forks for about £400

I've not ridden the new GRIP2 fork but at £315 (£434 minus for the £119 fork service included, from Silverfish) it would need to be a hell of a lot better than the FIT4 to tempt me.

Is there a charactersitic of your fork you don't like? Have you considered a cheaper tuning alternatives such as a Vorsprung Luftkappe or Push Industries revalve?

I have the 2019 grip 2 on the front of my bike. I like them. They were a pain to set up as the recommended settings from fox are for pro level racers. They felt crap.

I stumbled over a thread over on mtbr and they recommended using pivots settings. Using pivots recommended settings the felt 100 times better. I have now tweeked them and I’m now blown away by them. Plusher than my pike debonair and the mid support that rockshox don’t have. I haven’t t tried the lyrik so can’t compare.

Be aware that you need to know what you are doing when setting them up as they have so many adjustments. I’d recommend having a read on mtbr and watching a video by mr lost bike shop. He has an anoying voice but really does explain how to best set up the fork and what each adjustments does.

yeah i'm going for a luftkappe next service. Pinkbike did a mega review and basically said GRIP2 is great, so is FIT4. I'm happy with that!

I’ve just installed a MRP Fulfill widget on my 2017 36 Factory (160mm 29er version) in a bid to try and improve the small / medium bump performance a bit, as it has always felt a little on the firm side. On faster techy sections and bigger features the 36 is properly in its element, but after spending 4 ½ years riding an Avalanche Pike which is buttery smooth on everything, my expectations have been skewed somewhat. I’m not expecting miracles from this little £40 thingumajig , but if the reports on MTBR are to be believed I should see an reasonable improvement.

From all the reviews I’ve read the newest RC2 Lyrik is plusher on small stuff then the best Fox 36, but the 36 has this magical mid stroke support done better and has an extra adjustment.

It sounds like they’re both great forks and it just comes down to personal preference / riding style. But setup is key.

Ive never ridden a fox fork and curious to try one - I’ve only recently switched out moco from my 170mm Yari to a charger 2 (and changed to a debonair new style air shaft). Made a good difference but I’m making a bit of a meal of playing with settings.

2019 36 GRIP cartridge is SRP £356.95, or £433.95 fitted including a full service at Silverfish. If you want to fit it yourself you will also need the Teflon infused oil (21.95 for 1L) for the damper side lower.
