Interesting then how the US structure works - suspect lack of central funding is offset by a massive amount of investment in college sports etc., hence swimming and T&F dominance.
Also, track cycling itself is very under-the-radar compared to sports like baseball and basketball.
Even sprinting exceeds the attention span required for baseball or basketball.
It's cycling's tastiest discipline...
The omnomnomnium
Well the Women's Sprint is starting off well in the flying 200m seeding runs, new Olympic Record from Becky James!
0.003 seconds faster than the old Olympic Record set by Victoria Pendleton in London.
Oi, BBC - what the ****?!
You've gone to tennis while there are British riders competing on the track!
Bring it back right now!
Now cycling has disappeared from the blue button.

So - the incident in the women's Keirin where the Dutch girl rode the advertising boards having been forced all the way from the inside line to the top of the bank by the French girl, taking two others out badly in the process..... It looks like a deliberate act on the part of the French rider, but I've seen no suggestion of this (not looked that hard admittedly...) - what am I missing?

It's on BBC1 now...back on the blue button!
Phew, it's back.
It looks like a deliberate act on the part of the French rider, but I've seen no suggestion of this (not looked that hard admittedly...) - what am I missing?
Dutch girl was in a shit position and boxed in by Hong Kong. She leant inwards, French girl pushed back (which is natural when leant into), went off balance as the Dutch girl went with her rather than leaning back and that off-balance carried her up the track.
You know when you think there's an extra step in a staircase and fall forwards? Bit like that.
Spain behind got caught up in it and went down immediately (front wheel taken out by the back wheel of the French girl), NZ went down as a result of the final rider kicking back to avoid it all.
Certainly not deliberate because 99% of the time if you did that deliberately you'd all fall off together!
I know it's been said before, but Jo Rowsell Shands eyes..
So the two fastest qualifiers in Women's Sprint are Becky James and Katy Marchant for Team GB. ๐
Cav in the 15km Scratch Race on now, this is shaping up to be another good night in front of the TV!
Ta crazy-legs. Makes sense, but still looks nuts!
This should be a cracking race.
This should be a cracking race.
Brilliant so far, you can feel the tension! First little dig now. Looks pretty smooth but they're going at a fair old rate, 50-ish kph. Nicely tactical.
What about her eyes?
I know it's been said before, but Jo Rowsell Shands eyes..
Just said the same thing to Mrs THM. Beautiful.
Fingers crossed for Cav.
I think Mrs Rowsell-Shand is a very attractive lady! She rides around my local routes but I've never seen her, fortunately for both of us..
6th for Cav in the Scratch.
Great ride from Kluge and Hansen to get a lap on the bunch.

[super tenuous claim to fame] I've got the same time as her on a local strava segment [/super tenuous claim to fame]

Come on both teams!!
Nice of the other girls to turn up.
Now Virginie Cueef. Looks like she's blowing out of her .... no, I won't.
Anna Meares looks a lot slower than she used to be! Tired after the Keirin or just too old for it now?
[claim to fame]I got a selfie with Anna Meares at London when she won Gold[/claim to fame]*
*to be fair she was so happy she'd have stood next to pretty much anything, even me... ๐ณ
Good ride by the Russian fella for bronze.
Now let's hope Skinner can give Kenny a race
Sudden death for Calum - based on the first ride I fancy 2-0 to Kenny
edit: bosh, game over
Good effort anyway
They need to set up a feed from the rear facing camera on their visors to save them having to look round so much.

Both of those combined - finding it harder to recover because she's older I reckon (clearly Becky recovered OK).
The IP has to be the most boring part of the Omnium...
Still, Cav up in Heat 7.
I think the Omnium should be a Team format. Two riders. Scratch race (position taken on placing of both riders), a Madison, a Team Elimination (if one rider gets eliminated, both are out), a 2-up Team Pursuit and a Team Sprint. That'd be far more interesting.
cav pacing it nicely

Who knew he had that in him?
What a time by Cav, smashed the world champ he was riding with!
Cav making a point about his place in the pursuit squad??
BBC 1 abandoned the velodrome, but I found Cav on the red button. Great ride.
Incredible ride from Cab, that time training with the pursuit squad has paid dividends. That time would have won the world individual pursuit title last year!
Awesome ride by Cav. Only 6 seconds slower than the Pursuit WR.
Is this running late? It seems there will be little time before the elimination. You wouldn't want to be late in the pecking order
Must be running a bit late.
'kinell! That's well impressive by the Dane.

I missed it ๐
Hansen looking hugely strong ๐
[quote=chakaping ]Who knew he had that in him?
Not Hoy "his weakest event would be the pursuit" - which is surprising as he's got everything else spot on. Unless of course he's suggesting that the scratch race was a blip and Cav will win the other 4.
Super time by Hansen, new OR, but Cav is now back in the mix after two events. Game on!
