Just seen the price of the 2012 Trek Slash on All Terrain Cycles website. Base model is £2,750! For that you get bottom end brakes and rubbish wheels, plus a mix of X7 and X9.

It was a bike i was considering, but thats a crazy price.

The top end Slash is £4,750, a whole £2k more, same frame, just component changes plus a reverb.

Assuming the cost of frame is £1,500, i could have hope hoops with stans flow, full XT groupset, a reverb, grips, pedals, headset, Lyrik Solo Airs, bars and stem (Easton for eg), Maxxis Minions, and a saddle, all for £3,550, so on the top end bike, what are Trek spending the extra £1,200 on!?

I can afford to buy a new bike, but on principle the prices now seem like a complete rip off.

Unfortunately trek normally only do a frame only option in carbon which wont be cheap. Lots of nice 160mm frames around the £1500 mark but agree the Slash looks very nice.

yeah i didnt think they would do a frame only. I was just amazed at the prices of the full builds. Based on similar frames, id guess the frame could retail for about £1500, and for another £2,050 quid you could build up a top end bike. I just dont understand how Trek can justify £4,750 for their top end build.

In 2007 i bought a brand new Stumpjumper FSR Comp (base model with x9 and Fox 32 Floats, similar spec to Trek's bottom end Slash) It was £1500, 4.5 years later a similar build on a bike is over £1250 more. Thats around a £300 a year increase. Manufacturing prices haven't gone up that much

just to confirm. the upper end Slash frame will be available as a seperate frameset, but it'll be a few more months.

Trek has been over priced for years imo.

I've noticed all the 2012 prices are the same as the 2011 models however nearly all of them are a less spec. Most of the Remedy's have a Float rather than a Talas fork now.

I was considering a Remedy. Seen some 2011 bikes reduced but none in my size. Really wanted the 9.9 frame but none left 🙁

It was a hassle buying the full bike with the kit I don't really want.

Scat talking about a Slash?? sounds well dodgy 😉 Ohh its Scant, my mistake....

Anyway, frameset might be interesting, i dont really fancy a full build. Cheers for the info.
