Just wondered if anyone has had the chance to try the new 2011 Fox 36's yet with the slippy coating?

Saw some guys pile out of a Cube Bikes van at Cannock Chase last weekend and one of their bikes had the 180mms so I guess they are now doing the rounds.
Looked nice.

Yes, got them last week, although I am in California. Had 2 rides out, and they are super sweet. Surpising how nice they are out the box, considering my RC2s took a good 3 weeks to bed in.

Obviously they look pimp, and I'm liking the black and gold. For me the single stage reduction to 120mm is perfect, as I always found 100mm felt too short for my frame. Also I was always a fan of the Lockout on previous Talas as I prefer to climb a lot out the saddle (years with a SS) so I like the new lock out. All in all, pretty darn pleased.

I've stuck them on a new build, Yeti 575. Full XTR / Easton Carbon, Crossmax SX, Highroller 2.35's. Comes in at 27.9lb with my XC pedals on.

Is it just the 36's and 40's that get the new coating or will the 32's have it to?

Wouldn't like to say, depends how good people are with their maintainance as with other Fox products.
The idea is to give the customer something exclusive to aftermarket forks and that the coating has less 'stiction'. Don't think it's marketed as having better durability.
Mail for price btw. 😉

No 32mm Vanillas for 2011, only 36 vans and 40's are coil sprung.

I thought it was marketed as being more robust too.

'Enhanced durability' is what the blurb on the fox site says so yes is supposed to be tougher, contradicting my earlier post.

So does the Kashima coating open up Mojo/Fox UK to small claims court action regarding 'manufacturing defect'?

Theres a problem. Fox say its lack of regular maintenance. Yet the next year they bring out 'Kashima coating'.

Right. Its tenuous to argue that they were protecting customers against themselves when other manufacturers don't have this problem?

Not sure what's on that orange, but they're not doing Vans in 32 for 2011.

Why would it open up Mojo/Fox to small claims court action? Kashima is simply an aftermarket coating that's been around for years on Motorcycles, particularly Moto X. It's usually seen as an upgrade from standard OE on makes such as Showa and kayaba. Fox are merely tapping into established technology that does offer a performance upgrade - its nothing to do with form, and all to do with functionality. I'm certain you could send some 32mm stantions off to a moto x suspension specialist and have them coated.

Disagree.

Do all aftermarket fox forks from 2011 come with this finish as standard?

A consumer IMO could successfully argue that there was a known problem with the Fox stanchions and the Fox then decided to address this.

Just like there was a problem with the Orange 222 so they changed it to a 223, then 224 then 224 evolution?

Just like there was problem with the Mk1 Escort, so they changed to a Mk2,3,4... Focus Mk1, Mk2...

Basically its plain and simple product development and trying to keep ahead of the game. I think if a company identifies there is a better product out there that out performs what they curently use, then why shouldn't they use it? It just doesn't make sense to say that bringing out an evolution of a massively succesful and highly regarded product is an admission that what they previously used is not fit for purpose.

I know leaisure Lakes take bikes in part-ex, so they may do you a deal. However, you'd probably be better off selling them on here or somewhere similar and use the dosh from the sale.

So do I still have to service them every 15 hours to avoid invalidating my warranty?

If so, I'll stick with my Spesh and Magura forks which only need the same service every 50 hours...

Pre orders are being taken for the 2011 kit at the moment, so if people want them, get them ordered now!
Just letting you know not a company plug 😛
