[Closed] 2011 fox 36 float R oil change help
Good evening
Stripped my forks down tonight expecting to see lubricant ejecting from both fork stantions
Only one side had oil in it?
The guide I was using had two 10mm nut at the base of the fork as well as a compression knob
Mine has a 10 and a 12 mm nut, also no compression knob
I have identified my forks as the 2011 fox float r 36
Has anyone seen a guide on servicing, I'm only wanting to do my seals and lower fork service
Is there any guides for this exact model as I am slightly worried about refilling with oil now as I worried about the procedure
Thank you
Joe
Remove the nuts (as you have) place a bit of wood over the threads sticking out the fork lowers and tap gently with a hammer till they loosen, pull legs off and inspect stanchions for wear, remove foam seals from fork legs and wash out, clean o-ring seals but do not remove unless you are replacing them, flush out old oil in fork legs, refit foam seals after soaking in Fox Float Fluid (thick blue oil), if you like smear a bit of Stendec fork grease on o-ring seals otherwise use blue Fox Float fluid or a smidgeon of ptfe grease, slide fork lowers up onto fork stanchions making sure not to disturb the sprung o-ring seals, carry on all the way up the stanchions till the threaded bolt comes out the fork leg at bottom, slide the fork leg down enough or poke the threaded bolt back into fork leg and measure out 155ml of 10wt fox oil into the damper side through the hole in the bottom of the fork leg then measure 30ml of 10wt fox oil in the air spring side through the hole on the the bottom of the fork leg, push lowers on till threaded bolt comes out then attach nuts making sure the crush washers are still fitted on the top of the nuts - tighten up to "tweak" tight if you don't own a torque wrench, these are soft alloy nuts with a corresponding plastic washer - they don't need to be super tight.
If i were you i'd be tempted to remove the nut on top of the airpring side (obviously after removing all the air pressure but as you've had the lowers off i trust you've already done this) and check the o-ring seal on the nut, if there is any oil in the top chamber use a kitchen towel to clean/remove it and measure out 5ml of Fox Float fluid into the chamber, if you wish a more progressive (ramp up) feel to the fork then try 7.5ml or even 10ml and replace the topcap, pressurise fork to your riding pressure and that's it.
