I'm still on the lookout for forks and have been doing some reading up on the 36 talas RC2

Some reviews of older years talk about issues with reliability and stiction, is this still the case?

I would probably steer clear. Seeing as you have previously found fault with forks you have not even received yet.

Jamie, chalk and cheese, the other forks you refer to were 3 year old ones on ebay where the description was a bit vague, I'm now talking about new, shop (albeit web store) bought forks.

I've got the R's so not a direct comparison, but they're fine after 8 months of use. They were a bit sticky at first, but I was told to use ptfe spray on the stanchions, put on with a rag, and now I've got them set up right (or seemingly anyway) they're fine. Done a couple of services too, and all's ok. The only problem I've had is sometimes the valve seems to leak if I reduce the pressure in them, but a couple of pumps back up seems to sort it, and they're not amazing on buzzy stuff, like tractor tyre prints. I'm not heavy, but they've had quite a lot of use.

I think there was a Bikeradar review which suggested the RC's weren't worth the extra money over the R's though.

I have the 36'r Talas 08 version and recently sent the fork back
to Mojo and converted it into a Float.
Twice the fork locked out and once lead to a bad off at
the Climax trail in Wales, and recently went to Afan
and the fork locked out even though i wound it down to
100mm for the climb but locked out at 160mm and the fork
would not move, it just stayed rigid.
My advice would be to just buy a Float or the coil version

I have had 2008 36 talas and 2009's. Two of my mates have 2009's also. My mates and me have ridden them very hard indeed. Downhill tracks, 4x, france, whistler, norway, fort bill etc None us have ever had any problem at all with any of the forks, ever.

2008 Talas 36s here with no problems, ridden twice a week in the lakes all year round.

Basic service/clean once a month.major service,seals bushes etc every year. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I really like the option of variable travel, although I rarely use the lowest position,I think its a real advantage on the technical climbs in the Lakedistrict.

I do think they suffer from stiction though and i have never quite sorted the set up/feel/air pressure combo.

Has anyone had the "Push tune" done on them โ“

My Talas 32RL QR15s have been great. So great I'm looking at some 2011 Talas 36s!

Thanks for the responses, it's reports like Grantway's that worry me, have Fox changed the TALAS system (internals) since 2008?

believe they constant change/develope I believe its called a FIT
air system now but has it sorted out the problems I dont know

Just get a set of Floats and take the air out for the climbs
and then put more air in the fork for the down section when
you get to the top
