Experiences and pictures please - for trail centres only or also practical for proper long days in the hills? Thinking of going this way with my new hummer...
Gone 1x10 (32x11-36) with a C456.
Only ridden it locally so far but my mate borrowed it when we did afan a few weeks ago as his first experience of a trail centre. He survived and liked it so much we're going again this weekend.
Looks like this:
1x10. 32-36 can winch you up anything, even with 29" wheels.
This is on my old Inbred.

My Mojo HD is 1x9, currently 32 front and 11-32 cassette. Is fine, the odd thing I couldn't get up was hill being too muddy rather than gear being too big.
New race bike will be 1x10 (whatever i get!) and HD will be moved over when I can be bothered...
I've got 1x10, 32 front, 11-36 rear, with a clutch mech and a top guide on the Ragley. It works really well, but it does have its limits- it's true I can ride up pretty much anything I want to on it, but for a longer or harder ride I badly miss the granny. It's also poor in bad traction conditions- in snow or gloopy mud being able to spin a lower gear keeps you going where the torque of the middle ring will just spin the rear wheel.
It's a really good option but I won't have it on all my bikes, and for those times when I miss the granny, I really, really miss it.
Why would you run an 11-28 cassette!?
