[#4677936]

Having just gotten round to getting 1x10 on my bike, I was wondering if I would need to change the rear mech on my bike, I have a Shimano XT Shadow clutch mech which came standard on the bike (Five)

Is the mech something I would need to change as well? As I know you can get short/med/long cage mechs, I've only ridden the bike once since the 1x10 addition...

Cheers guys.

You can get away with a short cage mech which is nice, but you don't have to.

As long as I don't have to change the mech then that's fine by me!

Cheers 🙂

I think you'll need a 10 specific mech.. and as the previous poster says you'll be best off with a short cage.

It is already a 10 spd specific, so for now I think I shall leave it be!

More so as you've already got a clutch mech.

I changed mine as the mech spring seemed to be weak and wasn't a clutch mech, so switched to a short cage clutch type. Well worth it, though probably for the clutch rather than the short cage.
