Hi
What riding positions did people in say 1990 etc have on thier retro mtb bikes.
I know not much seatpost uesed to show
I know the bikes were steep and tall
Was the cockpit usually stretched out
Was the weight mainly over the front end?
Almost finished building my retro ride and wondering what a appropriate retro riding position would be, as i need to do some fine tuning . The bike is rigid and tyres are going to be big, 2.4's
As long as it's too uncomfy!!
Thanks
Long and cripplingly bum-up-head-down. Which ironically means now i use it as a commuter, it's quite good, but it was a rubbish way to build a mountain bike.
Early 90's
Stretched out
Long stems
High saddles
Low bars

Late in the 90's
Shorter top tubes became more common
as did slacker geometry
shorter stems
and riser bars
Who's going to answer this?
My handbuilt Bromwich had a 150mm stem and handled like a cruise ship.
If you want to set it up as per 90's don't expect to comfortably ride the trails of today.
well it's a 1991 and has a relatively short stem and top tube. Maybe it was ahead of it's time. It's going to have an easy xc life ๐
The steering is really quick and the bars low.
I've already shortended the cockpit a bit, but may lengthen it later.
thanks that's great.
2.4s...are they authentic?
How many 1990 bikes can take 2.4" tyres?
mine can. It had wide rims as standard. Lots of room left too. Front is a bit tighter but still fine. Tyres are not inline, i know but i had them anyway and they are ideal for a bit of comfort. They're very light too ๐
to be fair they are quite small for 2.4's.
