I'm hoping to run 1*10 or 9 if I need to, ideally with a clutch mech

I can't work out if this is possible.

anyone doing it? Any tips?

Thanks

1 x 9 on mine. 40t chainring with a 11-28 cassette, running a short cage 105 rear mech and a superstar chain guide to keep the chain on. It's worked well.

Saw on here a while back a company doing narrow wide chainrings for CX / road bike chainset spacings.

Yeah,
Race face and Absolute black both do narrow wide for cross.
Been running a 38 Absolute black with no probs.
No clutch but a short cage 105 mech with the spring tension changed up as reccomended by Absolute black.
No drops yet!
Thanx,
Max

I'm doing an AbsoluteBlack n/w ring too, this time with a SRAM mtb X-9 Type II rear mech. Works perfectly, not dropped the chain once, no matter how clumsily I ride (and I am pretty clumsy on a CX bike).

Doval 40t n/w here with un-modded 105 short cage here, 9spd cassette, 10spd Centaur Ergos. All good ๐Ÿ™‚

1x10 here with a 40t Race Face N/W chainring and a standard 105 rear mech. No chain drops in races yet (only dropped one ever, probably because I was clumsily shifting before hopping up a kerb).

I used to run a standard chainring, bash guard and inner jump stop, but no need for those now.

Proper muddy test at the weekend there and still no issues.
