Would there be any problem in fitting a 185mm eye to eye shock onto a frame that currently has 165mm fitted?

Is it possible and what would be the pros and cons of doing it?

Only reason I ask is a mate has a bought a second hand frame and I have a spare rear shock.

the BB would be way higher - you would have to run loads of sag to correct it. What is the stroke length required and the stroke length of the shock.

IMO its a bad idea

I would need to work it out as I dont have the frame at the mo.

May be easier to buy a second hand Fox R with 165mm e2e.

would raise BB and also steepen the head angle quite markedly, which would ruin the handling (unless your mate likes riding with near vertical forks).

OK, looks like a no no then.

Only problem is finding a 165mm i2i shock.

If anyone is selling one please let me know?

Keep an eye on ebay. Old 165 Van Rs do come up quite often (I was looking for one for the Tazer) - tend to go for around £40ish.
