15mm Rise...

The bars I got with my bike are 15mm rise.  I feel hunched forward when just casually riding.  I am going to invest in new bars.  50mm seems too much, so probably 35mm.

They also feel very wide (780mm).  However, I will give that a little time to see.

I am just surprised the rise is so small on such wide bars.

Have you tried them as high as they will go by putting all the stem spacers underneath? It might not be enough, but it could inform your decision on what rise bars to buy.

It's a Whyte 805.

It didn't come with any spacers, can you just purchase them?

If there’s room to fit them, they will already be on the steerer tube, above the stem, simply put them under the stem.

If not, then you won’t be able to fit any more.

How long/low is the stem?
How wide are the bars?

How big are you and what's your arm span?

I had a whyte 905, but on XL size (only) they put a 35mm rise bar as standard. Plenty of cheap bars out there at the moment to try, definitely worth experimenting

My height is 5ft 10 with a 63 inch arm span.

The stem is 40mm.  I have no idea how low, sorry.

It's a medium frame.

take a pic of your bike when in a sitting on it position, close up of bars area, then same with a slightly lower view say, camera by saddle facing towards bars.

OP, I think you're on the right path... no excess steerer means try higher rise bars... BUT use your existing bars to get the width right first... you might even find that cut down, with your hands less far apart, that the height works with the low rise.

A bar with 35mm rise would certainly make a difference. I have a long torso so higher rise bars always feel more natural for me...you might be the same? I have a new set of NS bikes lick bars lying around if you're interested but they are 60mm rise and a 25.4 clamp so you'd need to change stems. Oh and my dad's Whyte eeb came with only about 20mm of spacers under the stem and probably the same low rise bars as yours. Whereas pretty much every other bike I've owned has come with either 3 or 4 cm worth of spacers. Don't know why Whyte like to chop their steerers so short. Kinda annoying.

There must be a few forum members who stocked up on 38mm Nukeproof and Ragley bars when they were going dirt cheap at CRC, surely someone has a spare to sell.

Thanks for the offer.  I'm just going to keep an eye out on the sales.

Is Carbon worth it or not?

I preferred non carbon for road, but noticed a big difference when I changed to carbon.

I like these.  Any one have these or have any recommendations around this price range?

If I go for the 40mm option, (sorry if this is a stupid question) can I adjust the rise? As in switch it or is it set.

You can lower it by moving some of the stem/steerer spacers back above the stem.

You have either 5mm or 10mm spacers below your stem, they come apart and can be put above or below to change the rise.

Going lower is easy with your setup, going higher you need bars.

That Whyte is a loooooong bike - that's your first problem. You might never get it feeling quite how you like it without downsizing

Definitely try some higher bars though

So I can buy it and vary the rise from 30mm to 40mm.  Or just be safe and go for 30mm!

Well you can't change the 'rise' of the actual bars... but you can make them lower.

If you go up to 30mm rise and it still feels too low you're stuck but if you go 40mm and its a little too high there's the option of putting one of your spacers above the stem instead of under it thus giving you a variety to try, move your 5mm or 10mm spacer above the stem and it'll be like 35 or 30mm rise with a 40mm bar.

Thank you all for the advice.  Will definitely play about with the spacers and watch that video.  I'm quite a noob at maintenence, but going to try my best instead of getting someone else to do it for me.

I ended up with the nukproof horizon v2 38mm at a crazy cheap price.
