Would definitely have said the external Brand X.... but only available in 125mm drop I think.
TranzX JD-YSP29 is external and 150/170mm but I can't find anywhere selling it, only the 125mm JD-YSP19.
Thanks, yes I can find plenty of 125mm external droppers, but having got used to 170mm on the other bike I rather not go back to 125mm on this build.
Fox transfer do one with the cable at the seat clamp. Better than the under seat ones. Really reliable also
Giant do one 150mm swithcable from internal to external cable which is clever. Unfortunately they are a bit shit and need constant work to keep them moving

Until fairly recently I had a KS Supernatural 150mm drop externally routed dropper - paid about £170 new (from CRC - now sold out)
It does say "new" on the tranzx web site so maybe there is hope for a half decent external 150mm dropper
