Tried an anthem, enjoyed it but reckon I need a bit more travel. Scott spark 60s the current favorite

YT Industries Wicked for sheer value. Spark is still more XC than trail IMO, but seems to be at the trail end if you know what I mean.

Not sure I'm comfortable buying something I can't throw my leg over 1st.

Assuming you mean full suspension exclusively when you say "trail bike" given the bikes you've looked at so far, check out the Giant Trance X. Like an Anthem, but with 25mm travel both ends. Really cheap now too from Paul's Cycles at 30-35% off for outgoing year models.

Great bikes, massively underrated mainly cos they're not as boutique as something like the Orange 5, or perceived to be as cool as a Specialized etc.

Or there is the Canyon Nerve XC which is quite frankly brilliant VFM.

I ashamed myself just saying it _tom_, I'm not normally one to sub-niche things. Specialized Camber?

2nd for the Camber - I test rode one when they first came out and they handle very well.

just had a google, found a carbon trance x2 in the price range (nearly in the price range anyway) awful lot of bike for the money. Hasn't got that horrible S downtube of the Al model either

I haven't seen any reviews of the cheaper carbon Giants, but that looks pretty nice.

+1 for Canyon AM. I got one and am really impressed so far. Great specification, just don't use Canyon frame size calculator.
