I know a few people have bought 140mm forks for there 29ers was just wondering if there was any feed back, ideally like to know if its worth investing ๐
must depend on the frame geometry and strength, surely?
yeah but i could run a 140 on the frame i have and was just wondering if the extra travel was worth the investment ๐
What frame is it?
I'll tell you in 3 weeks....
120mm fork on my Inbred 29er felt huge, more like 150mm.
And the bars might sit very high at 140mm.
I have been looking at this alot recently for my RIP9.
One of the main downsides to changing from 120 to 140mm forks is the increase in axle offset with most 140mm forks.
This effectively reduces alot of the trail causing the steering to become twitchier, and thus negating any of the advantages achieved by the reduction in head angle.
In short my advice is to find the 140mm fork with the smallest axle offset.
From what I've read this is the Marzocci 44.
I'm sure somebody in the know will correct me here and if they do then good, cause I want to know more about this too.
I should be picking my 140 Rev up tomorrow.
Lets hope this one's OK. ๐
i ran 140mm white bros on a chumba hx2, it was fantastic.
i tried them on a ventana el capitan, and the were terrible.
Stu let me know how you get on with it once youve thrashed it about, i cant help feeling thatb 120 is plenty on a 29er ๐
its the marzocchis im looking at hugor
I have run a Marz 44 140 on a Canfield Yelli and a Turner Sultan, really great fork and worth the investment (even at full price)
Worth reading this thread.
Alot of the stuff at the beginning is specific to my bike but there's a good comparison of the geo of various 29er 140mm forks.
Another take on the 29er with 140mm forks here.
I don't know much about Kingdom bikes but I know the trail they're talking about and have ridden with Jim. He's not someone I'd have thought would take to a 29er to be honest!
