couple of questions if someone could help me out - bike has a 100mm front fork at the minute but thinking about fitting a 120mm one - mostly local trail riding - so just want to know if:-
- will a 120mm front fork work with the frame or change the whole set-up too much ?
- is the upgrade worth it ?
Thanks,
Johnny
I asked this very question elsewhere. ย The basically answer is that - assuming you mean the RC - the non RC came specced that way anyway, so have a look at the non-RC Geo to see what will happen. ย Basically it'll slightly slacken the HA* for a bit more stability and remove a small amount manouvereability.
If you are doing that try going for a 34 or 35 mm station which is the real upgrade to swap out the 32mm OEM Fox SC I'm assuming you have which can be a bit flexy when pushed hard.
If you're keeping the bike for a few years do it. ย If not - as I'm not - consider leaving the money for the new bike because though the changes are good they aren't going to radically change the ride.
*assuming you use the same fork offset
Hi Kryton,
yes, it is the RC900 team - which came with the SID Select+ RL3 100mm fork.
I do intend to keep it so based on this, think I will upgrade the fork.
many thanks for your help.
I ran my 2017 Spark 700 Tuned with 29ers and a 140mm 36. Adding 20mm up front did not disappoint.
I haven't ridden a Scott Spark, but I've overforked a lot of XC bikes and it's always been an improvement overall.
Your existing fork may extend to 120mm with just the removal of a spacer. Lots of video help on youtube.
Oh, cheers Dickie - I'll check that out
I used this to shorten a Recon from 140 to 130
not sure it'd be worth pushing the 32mm stanctioned SID to 120mm.
As Kryton said, stiffen the chassis.
Sid Ultimate at 35mm or 34SC at 34mm for 120mm forks
