Hi everyone,

Probably a daft question so excuse the lack of knowledge...

I'm currently running XT 10 x 3 drive-train with a clutch derailleur. If I wanted to go 11 x 1 would the existing rear mech work, or would I have to replace the whole shebang?

Thanks!

It'd be shebang time.

Thanks anyway - speedy replies!!

1x11 means new freewheel, cassette. chain. mech and shifter and a new front chainring.

1x10 - you can most likely use all your current kit, just need a Hope T-Rex or similar, and a narrow/wide ring up front

Yeah, you could get within 1 tooth with a 1x10 setup. It's not as good but it's a hell of a lot cheaper, and avoids million pound consumables.

I can't help but think of spinal tap every time some one mentions 11 speed.

Unless there is new kit out which that I've not seen (distinctly possible) that will run on a standard 9/10 speed body you'd need new wheels/free hub too to go 11 speed

New XTR is 11 speed on a standard freehub.

New XTR is 11-40 so nothing more than is currently available but way more expensive.
