Are they not doing any normal sized ones for running with doubles and triples, who the hell needs a 40t cog with non 1x drive chains.
The double chain sets have smaller gaps compared to 9 or 10 spd doubles, so overall range is sensible and a front shift is less likely to require a simultaneous rear shift (in opposite direction) to achieve the intended ratio change.

No! Doubles and triples are out, along with 26" wheels...
Front mechs are dead. Could not stand having one again.
The 11 chainsets have a smaller range (ten teeth on the double) so even a 3 x 11 has less range than my 3 x 9.
I think a 3x11 with 22/32/44 with 11-42 cassette would be awesome!

Yes it's called 10 speed, unless you must have the newest and shineyest stuff just get a good 10sp setup and run with that.

The %age range for the 11 spd is bigger.
Different starting and end point for the ratio ranges, but a bigger range for 11. Also more practical gaps between c/ring sizes for better cadence management.

I may be alone in this but I very rarely run "standard" or manufacturer specked chainring combos, if run a 22/32/42 and you'd have a greater and more usable range and only be lacking top end by %5, or go for a 28/40 double and a 11-42 cassette for 90% of a 9s triples range but the ease and shifting of a double
The %age range from the numbers you've provided taking available chainset into account is bigger for 11spd.
9 spd 18.7GI - 115.8GI is a 619.25% range
11 spd 15.9GI - 105.2GI is a 661.65% range.
Don't your figures above show a bigger range for 11sp simondbarnes?
9sp = 18.7GI - 115.8GI = 519% gear range
11sp = 15.9GI - 105.2GI = 562% gear range
doh - beaten to it. (although I drop 100% due to Sheldon's argument that a singlespeed isn't 100%, but 0%)

IMHO they're fine - did a season of 32:11-36 in the alps about 5 years ago, haven't ridden with a ft mech since.
as with most bike related things YMMV.
